Innosuisse offers a unique personalized coaching program designed to help entrepreneurs successfully start and grow their science-based start-up companies. To complement the current offering, Innosuisse is now launching a new scale-up coaching programme. It is aimed at significantly boosting the growth of high potential scale-ups through an initial 1-month team coaching followed by a 23-month milestone-based coaching accompaniment. The program also in-cludes specialized support in various areas such as legal and regulatory advice, support for international market entry and help in securing necessary financing. Scale-ups that receive a coaching voucher from Innosuisse can only use this voucher to procure themselves coaching services from Innosuisse accredited coaches. After the scale-up has chosen a coach and both parties have mutually agreed to the coaching terms, Innosuisse pays the coach for its coaching services via a voucher system.

The quality of the Innosuisse coaching programme depends heavily on the deep experience, know-how and professional network of its coaches who have first-hand experience of running and growing their own companies. Coaches are assessed every two years to determine if they continue to meet the Innosuisse quality requirements.

The role: The coach provides active coaching and support of scale-up companies that have been issued an Innosuisse coaching voucher. In a first phase, the coaching begins with an in-depth assessment of the growth strategy (including current growth barriers and a plan on how to overcome them) along with 1 to 2 other coaches and the CEO and/or management team of the scale-up. During this phase of max. 4 weeks, growth goals are defined. The firm must then succeed the scale-up certification board meeting to be eligible for the second phase. In the second phase, the coach then works with the company to achieve the defined milestones set in the Innosuisse voucher within a given timeframe. Throughout the collaboration, the coach proactively supports the start-up by evaluating and highlighting special needs and actions to take. Moreover, the coach opens doors to the scale-up nationally and internationally by proposing external and internal network support.

The requirements:

  • Growth: The most important criteria to become a coach is to have experience as founder of a science-based innovation start-up or as part of the executive management team and to have scaled this startup to reach a significant amount of employees and/or market share in its market segment. Additional experience as start-up coach/mentor or as member of start-up boards is an advantage.
  • Management: To have significant experience in one or several of the following management competencies: Growth strategy formulation, business modeling, industrialization, product development, marketing and sales, internationalization, financial planning, fundraising, organizational development, leadership, team building, etc.
  • Innovation: To have led science-based innovation projects from conception through product development to commercialization.
    Networks: Very strong network of business partners and, ideally, investors in Switzerland and abroad. Excellent industrial/business relations in Swiss and in international start-up ecosystems.
  • Personality: Open, excellent communicator, prepared to listen, used to work autonomously and motivated by teamwork. Ready to collaborate with other Innosuisse accredited start-up and scale-up coaches.
